GIIA’s Achievements

GIIA has played an instrumental part in ensuring that the Island’s Insurance Industry’s voice is heard by the local Government, local regulators and international bodies as needs have required. Its lobbying activities have been supplemented by its efforts to raise the Industry’s profile and ensure a sufficient depth of informed insurance professionals to enable the maintenance of Guernsey’s reputation among the elite of the world’s insurance domiciles. It has done this through the organisation of conferences and seminars both in Guernsey and abroad, and the provision of education sessions to all levels of the Guernsey insurance industry.

GIIA’s achievements over the last 2 years include:

  • Lobbied to have Cats 2, 4, 5, 6 exempt from Ombudsman levy while still providing bona fide eligible complainants with access to the ombudsman service
  • AML Training
  • Sponsorship of the ILS Guidance paper
  • Arrangement of the ILS seminars
  • Arrangement of Pension Longevity seminars
  • Response to various consultation documents as varied as beneficial ownership, revised laws,
  • Constructive relationship with the GFSC addressing all topics that are required
  • Representation at GIBA
  • Representation at Guernsey initiatives such as FINTech
  • Representation of industry‚Äôs interests on revision of the AML Handbook
  • Provision of clarification re the application of DPT to Guernsey captives
  • Assistance to the GFSC in training of its staff on insurance specific issues
