The Regulatory & Technical Committee

The Regulatory & Technical Committee’s purpose is to provide an efficient means for GIIA members to work together on technical issues facing the insurance industry. For example, the Committee alerts GIIA members to any proposed new regulation or legislation and seeks to ensure there are no weaknesses in the drafting which could cause unnecessary problems for the industry.

The Committee is currently working on the implementation of certain recommendations contained in the 2021 Insurance Sector Strategic Review including:

  • preferred creditor status for policyholders;
  • amending the data protection framework;
  • a scheme of transfer for general business; and,
  • removing the audit requirement for lower risk insurers.

Membership can vary dependent upon the particular issue under consideration and views are sought from as wide an audience as possible. Consensus is the preferred outcome for the Committee but it is recognised that sometimes other views need to be expressed.

If you would like to join the Committee or wish to talk in more detail about its activities, please contact Graham Powell at [email protected]
